QuarkNet Summer Workshop at Rice University 2019

The 2019 Summer Workshop will be held at Rice University from June 17 - 21, 2019. A detailed agenda with links to various resources, including presentations from UH and Rice faculty can be found below.

  • CMS E-Lab: Quarknet Fellow Shane Woods will visit us again and will give a 3 day CMS Data Workshop. It's a follow-up on the workshop from last year and introduces CMS's E-Lab to you. This particle physics E-Lab forms the basis of our yearly MasterClasses that high school students can attend.
  • Cosmic Ray Detectors: bring them to campus for check-ups! A couple of Rice students who have worked with me throughout the Spring semester will be there and share their experience on how to configure them for fun types of physics (how longs does a muon live?) and how to hook the setup up to a Raspberry PI
  • Share-a-ton / demos: we will look at what we can learn from cloud chambers, but also you should bring your favorite activity or demo to share with others!
  • Faculty Speakers: we will have a faculty speaker almost every day talking about dark matter, nuclear physics at the LHC, neutrinos, and more!
