Location
We will use the computer lab of Duncan Hall 1020. This room is accessible from outside Duncan Hall. Campus tour 1 will be at Brockman Hall 120.
Agenda
The agenda involves a couple of lectures on particle physics and the analysis of real data from the LHC. We will also walk the students to a nearby lab in which we have set up an experiment in which we determine the lifetime of a muon. We will also be visiting a real physics lab!
The tentative agenda for Saturday is as follows:
- 8h30 - 9h registration & gateway activity
- 9h - 9h45 lecture on particle physics: what are fundamental particles?
- 9h45 - 10h30 Campus Tour: detecting real muons
- 10h30- 11h15 How to detect particles and analyze real data from CMS?
- 11h30-1pm - Lunch
- 1h - 2h30pm Data analysis in groups of two
- 2h30pm Data analysis discussion
- 3pm - video conference with CMS analyzers
